The Scales of Justice

Welcome to my Nightmare

I’m closing in on this Zucco dirtbag, we’ve got Dark Knights all over town trying to bring demons out of the abyss, and whats obviously a trap at Unitorn’s performance this weekend. The last thing I need is one more thing put on my plate. Enter Zucco and his nightmare shit that keeps me restless all night. I tried to handle the problem on my own and gave away the condor pendant but that didn’t help. The bastard was back the following night for round two. I was so exhausted the next morning that I had to seek help from the dwarf. He’s a good guy (for a dwarf), and has been a reliable ally but I died a little inside reaching out to him for help.

We were able to work out a temporary solution, but unless I can kill Zucco and his Minotaur pal soon this is going to be a real problem. There has to be some sort of magical item I can find in one of these back alleys to hide me from him. The element of surprise is something I’m going to need on my side going forward.

(hears noise outside of the fireball inn)

WHAT NOW?! …what’s all this noise is outside? I better go investigate…

Blood and bloody ashes! Look at all those Dark Knights!

OF COURSE Rigmore is headed right for them…

(runs out of the room singing)

We’ll drink the wine till the cup is dry,
And kiss the girls so they’ll not cry,
And toss the dice until we fly,
To dance with Jak o’ the Shadows.

Sneak Sneak Sneak

[Righty McStabbins and John Notto can be seen sitting in the lobby at the Hotel that they are calling home for the time being.]

Righty: “So you drink because the love of your life left you?”

[John takes a sip from his bottle.]

John: “Nope, my turn.”

[John passes the bottle to Righty.]

John: “Where you magically conceived?”

[Right takes a sip from the bottle.]

Righty: “No by your Mother!”

[John just stares blankly at Righty and grabs the bottle and takes a huge gulp.]

Righty: “Calm down Mate, I’m just busting your hump. Save some for me.”

John: “I didn’t know my Mother or my Father. Or at least my biological ones. Sometimes I think about them…. sometimes I’ll think about what I would ask them if they were in front of me. I’m not angry with them…’

[John catches himself and stops. He just continues to look down.]

Righty: “Listen we all have questions that don’t have answers. I’m looking for my sister and have zero leads but that won’t stop me from trying my hardest to find her. If you want answers go get them.”

[Righty stands up.]

Righty: “But you won’t find any answers in that bottle.”
[Righty walks out leaving John to ponder what he told him.]*

Zucco is toying with us now. He watched us battle the Gith, then summoned a chain devil to distract us as he got away. I was surprised how easily we defeated the devil, and so was Zucco for that matter. He became angry and blasted a crowd of people with a fireball killing a handful. This turned the crowd on and aided his escape. If it wasn’t for the quick thinking Unitorn and Righty McStabbins (Where the hell did he come from anyway?) to put on an impromptu song and dance number we might have had yet another fight on our hands.

I’m convinced that he’s using this condor medallion to track me. I have to figure out a way to use it to my advantage. I’ll have to think quickly because I think he’s planning an ambush next week. Unitorn received a shady invitation to perform a private show for some noble. It just so happens that there will be Dark Knights there, and we all know they are working with Zucco. The son of a bitch has laid a trap for us. Its time to turn the tables and finally get the vengeance I seek.

First thing is to separate him from his Minotaur boyfriend so he can’t escape so easily…

Chain Devil, blood, and fire.

It is amazing how one second you and your party can be gallantly eliminating evil and the next being blamed for collateral damage as though you started it! Thank the gods for Makaria and Righty’s quick thinking, because I’m fairly certain most of our group would have attacked innocents and had the whole of Sanction turned against us! This is especially good because I have a feeling we will need to use all available resources in this city to take on the tasks ahead of us. Between the Church of Sargonnes and the trap at the alignment party, it is not much comfort to simply know what has to be done. We will all need to be our most cautious and covert- I fear the dwarf, Rigmor, will not be able to conceal our plans, for one mention of Reorx and he is ready to either prostrate himself or fight. I have a feeling I should keep an eye on him to make sure he does not unintentionally jeopardize our missions.

Knights of Sanction - Rigmor Talonbeard
The Red Condoor...

After creating quite a scene and eliminating the Gith, there was something to investigate. Emblazoned in flames and ashes, the symbol of the Red Condor taunted us. Predictably, the dark dwarve and the minotaur were near. Before we could engage them though….that glow….pure evil….

The Condor became a illuminated doorway, which birthed a Chain Devil, complete with Cultists. He picked the wrong place to appear… As quickly as this foul creation materialised, it was felled quicker. We were upon it like warts on a witch. One of the most magnificent displays in teamwork I have seen from my fellow adventurers.

The Cultists took a more scrambled approach but we’re defeated, nonetheless. However, the villagers paid the price as the duo of villains flame struck several of them. Poor souls. Before I could return the act, the two vanished. By Reorx, I will protect the defensless next time. Without hesitation, the remaining villagers pointed the blame at us! The audacity! Thankfully, Makaria and Righty (glad to see him again) whipped up a performance to lull the would be mob.

This is where it gets interesting, for those who do not see portals and battles interesting. Makaria was asked by a noble woman by the name of Illantra to give a performance in a week’s time. Shortly after this request, we met up with the Knights whom we have traveled all this way to find. After sharing some information, we discovered that, in a week’s time, there will be a planetary alignment. Convenient, right? Illantra has been vocal in the past about uniting the Dark Knights and the Knights of Solamnia. We suspect she is planning some trickery at the forthcoming gathering, which we will be attending. None of us our sure how the alignment fits into the larger picture, but it cannot be good. I believe that some sleuthing is in order so as to not be caught with our leggings at our ankles come next week.

Stay Musical My Friends

Outside the Fireball Inn…. a battle erupted with demons adorned in chains…. lo and behold we take down these fools. With the victory came fear and mistrust bestowed upon local civilians. It was my job to remedy this mistrust and make the civilians know we really are a lovely bunch… once you get to know us. What better way to do that than through the merriment of music. I start to strum on my lute, and the angelic voice of Righty McStabbins joins in. Our performance proved to be impeccable and we are asked to perform for a private event the following week. Flattering as it may seem, this “event” seems to raise some speculation…. is this really, dare I say it….. A TRAP?! It’s time to investigate the venue of the upcoming performance and see what we find…..

Art of Losing

[Blood slowly drips onto the floor of the grand ballroom, each drop adding to the small pool gathering. The source of the blood coming from John Notto’s …well…everywhere. He is sitting at the bar after a deadly fight with Gith Assassins. He sways back in froth in his seat then begins to think out loud.]

John Notto: “When you win, you don’t examine it very much, except to congratulate yourself. You easily, and wrongly, assume it has something to do with your rare qualities as a person. But winning only measures how hard you’ve worked and how physically talented you are; it doesn’t particularly define you beyond those characteristics."

[John takes a sip from a bottle and wipes the blood from his eyes.]

JN: “Losing on the other hand, really does say something about who you are. Among other things it measures are: do you blame others, or do you own the loss? Do you analyze your failure, or just complain about bad luck?”

[John goes to take a swig from the bottle but then puts it down.]

JN: “If you’re willing to examine failure, and to look not just at your outward physical performance, but your internal workings, too, losing can be valuable. How you behave in those moments can perhaps be more self-defining than winning could ever be.”

[John picks up the bottle and takes a big gulp.]

JN: “Sometimes losing shows you for who you really are.”

Somebody's Watching Me — Grayson

This is the second time now that I’ve caught Zucco watching me from the shadows. How can I hunt him if he is hunting me? I’m never going to be able to sneak up on him if he is one step ahead of me. I need to figure out how he doing… BLOOD AND BLOODY ASHES! The stupid red condor medallion. That must be it!

I’ll show that bastard. I’ll ask hopper to take the medallion and keep Zucco busy on a wild goose chase while my companions and I develop a plan.

… no, I can’ do that, its too dangerous for Hopper. What I can do is find some local dirtbag that headed in the opposite direction, and sneak it into his belongings. We’ll be long gone before Zucco realizes what we’ve done.

Time to take back the element of surprise!

In the city, the city of Sanction
With Zora Beeblebrox

Fireball Inn Review: * overall 9/10
I recently visited the Fireball Inn with some -friends- -colleagues- associates? Yes associates, on a trip for, mostly business, but some pleasure too as it turns out! The lodging was certainly the most extravagant and tidy of all the Inns I’ve visited in my 116 years. The Inn was located in the affluent part of town, and while we did not get a chance to really explore the local area, we were treated to the most wonderful entertainment by staying in the inn and watching their in-house entertainment. The check-in process was concise and service was fantastic- we even got to meet the owner personally. The furnishings in our room were modern, and our room was large enough to fit a Draconian! Not that we did, of course.
The entertainment was, by far, the most rousing play I could have ever hoped to watch. The fantastic bard, Makaria Unitorn, will be known through the ages for the performance she gave that night. The performance hall was very nice, however, I had to deduct one point for their failure to keep unwanted non-patrons out of the establishment, as well as having set up their room in a way not conducive to battle. Other than that one flaw though, stellar establishment, would absolutely visit again and recommend to friends!

Zora Beeblebrox’s short guide on how to NOT intimidate someone.

  • Don’t bother to learn about your target, you definitely don’t need to know if you will be walking up to an unarmed halfling or an armed and guarded Minotaur.
  • Definitely don’t have sufficient knowledge about what information you are trying to extract.
  • Have nothing threatening about you.
  • Kindly compliment the person.
  • Slowly and innocuously pull your weapon.
  • Don’t stop or be dissuaded by your apparent failure- plug on!
Battle of The Giths
Makaria Unitorn

These damn Giths…how dare they overshadow my performance…..(tiefling bards are quite dramatic if you couldn’t tell by now…. one may even go so far as to say “diva.”) Here I thought we’d enjoy our stay at the Inn, have some celebratory beverages, perhaps even put on an encore performance….. but NO! Once again, we find ourselves amidst a brutal battle. Our combined efforts, as well as the aid of the Red Robed allies led us to victory. I’m utterly exhausted and am in dire need of some Fireball…. the liquor, not the spell….. (although casting a few FB’s here and there never hurt anyone…. right? ;) )
